The department trains specialists in the speciality 014 Secondary Education (Musical Art). Educational levels provided: bachelor and master; in of forms full-time and part-time studies. The department is located in the building of the Faculty of Culture and Arts, Lviv, Valova st., 18.

Our specialists work as music teachers, leaders of extracurricular clubs and singing collectives in secondary schools, as well as teachers of vocal, piano, wind, string and other musical instruments in extracurricular educational institutions. Masters have the opportunity to conduct research in the field of music pedagogy and art.

Students of the Department of Musical Art are regular participants in domestic and international scientific and practical conferences, art events and concerts. Among our graduates are well-known pop singers: Mariia Lazurenko, Liliana (Lilia Tsiupryk), Pavlo Tabakov, Dana Mekhedova, Olha Verkholiak. The high level of training helps our graduates to become opera singers, including young but already famous solists of Lviv Opera and Opera Theatres of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany (Stepan Drobit, Andriy Stetskyi, Roman Chabaranok, Oksana Nahirna, Florina Dan, Natalia Kukhar and others). Relevant skills help our specialists to create their own creative collectives, which successfully tour not only in Ukraine but also abroad: the trio Ledis, “Leonvoci”, the band ROСKOKO and others.

The history of the department dates back to 1948, when the Music and Pedagogical college was founded at Pedagogical college #2 by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of Ukraine. The college was later named after the famous Ukrainian musical ethnographer and folklorist F. Kolessa. Artists and teachers known both in Ukraine and abroad were educated there. Among them are S. Turchak, A. Kushnirenko, a trio of Maria, Daniil and Nina Baiko, I.Hamkalo, T. Mykytka, V. Kuz, Ihor and Oksana Bilozir, R. Lyzhechko, S. Piatnychko, S. Mahera, M. Protseviat, M. Dutchak, V. Yatsyniak, М. Burban and many others.

After several reorganizations the Department of Musical Arts (Department head – Candidate of Art History, Associate Professor E.Z. Tainel) was created in 2005 as part of the Faculty of Culture and Arts of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, with the support of the Rector of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv I.
